Everything you need to know about AED training

You may have seen AED located in several public buildings and offices and might be curious to know about the equipment. Well, an AED or Automated External Defibrillator is a device used to help people during emergency cardiac arrests. It is an easy-to-use equipment that can analyze the rhythm of the heart and can de-fibrillate if required.

However, one must know how to use the device, and therefore, AED-CPR training is quite required.

Getting AED certification from reputed training centers like AED Training San Ramon can accelerate your career as a healthcare worker.

How can AED training help?
In the US, sudden cardiac arrests are one of the leading causes of death. An emergency cardiac arrest can be addressed using CPR, but if the situation worsens, it may not be of much help even if you take the patient to the emergency ward.

How the equipment can be used?
You can find AED in most of the public buildings. It is portable and lightweight equipment that analyses the heart condition of the patient and gives an electric shock on the chest wall that reaches to the heart to cure arrhythmia or irregular heartbeat problem and generate a normal heart rhythm.
AEDs can be used by anyone who’s trained to use the equipment. When the Electrodes of AED are attached to the victim’s chest, the device checks the heart rhythm and calculates if the victim needs de-fibrillation, and acts accordingly.

Why should you take AED and CPR classes?
Well, you must take AED and CPR classes so that you can save a few people around who would need your help during a cardiac arrest. As a healthcare professional, it can improve your career prospects too.

Make sure to get AED/CP training from reputed and Red Cross affiliated training centers like AED Training San Ramon where you can get proper hands-on training on how to save cardiac arrest victims.

All About AED [Infographic]

This info-graphic titled ‘All about Automated External Defibrillator’ gives us an outline of the use and importance of AED devices in our daily lives. It is well known when heart function ceases abruptly and without warning, it causes Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Unlike a heart attack, sudden cardiac arrest is an electrical problem that creates an irregular heart rhythm, preventing the heart from pumping blood to all essential organs. It is the AEDs that are used immediately. These are portable, life-saving medical instruments designed to treat people experiencing a sudden cardiac attack. This system of AED includes accessories like a battery and pad electrodes, which is the basic necessity for AED to detect and interpret an electrocardiogram and deliver an electrical shock.
If an AED recognizes any kind of abnormal heart rhythm, it will charge and indicate that a shock is advised, usually communicated with a voice command. The benefit of the shock is correcting the abnormal electrical disturbance that causes the irregular heart rhythm and re-establishing a normal heart rhythm. For more detail, please refer to the info-graphic below.

Basics of AED training

AED, also known as Automated External Defibrillator, is a lightweight device to provide an electric shock to the heart through the chest. The device is used to control arrhythmia or irregularities in the heartbeat.

As per the reports, every year, 95 percent of deaths that occur due to cardiac arrest happen because the patients die before they are taken to the hospital. However, in certain situations, AEDs can act as life saviours, addressing heart-related medical emergencies well. The device is quite useful to address medical emergencies and can be used by non-medical people too.

How AEDs function?
An in-built computer checks the rhythm of the patient’s heart using adhesive electrodes and decides whether defibrillation is required. The machine immediately signals the rescuer to press the AED’s shock button. Due to the shock, the heart stops for a moment and gives it a chance to perform effectively.

Where the AEDs are required?
The device must find a place in the ambulances, emergency vehicles, fire engines, educational institutes, office areas, and public areas (like hotels, shopping malls, airports, convention centers, etc.) The device must be placed where people with a high risk of strokes live and public or private spaces where people usually gather.

How to avail of AED training?
The American Heart Association (AHA) offers several First-aid and CPR training through the training centers. You can call the nearest AHA branch to locate a center near you. AED training is important because, with this training, you can save someone. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, using AED during cardiac arrest can increase the chance of survival by 60 percent. The situation would improve drastically when CPR is provided within 5-7 minutes of cardiac arrest, along with the use of AED.

If there are more people in a community to address heart-related medical emergencies, it would help increase cardiac arrest survival or stroke survival rates.

Steps to use Automated external defibrillators [Infographic]

This info-graphic titled ‘Steps to use Automated external defibrillators’ provides us an outline of operating an AED machine.

Ventricular fibrillation which is caused by disorganized electrical activity in the main pumping chambers of the heart is a commonly known cause of cardiac arrest. The treatment for ventricular fibrillation is defibrillation of an electric shock to the heart through the person’s chest wall. This shock attempts to stop the disorganized electrical activity and resumes the normal heart’s rhythm.

The automated external defibrillator (AED) is a device that recognizes ventricular fibrillation and delivers an electric shock at the right time. This device has become a common sight in public buildings. It is safe and easy to use as it comes with audio and video visuals to follow. Although there are several different brands of AED machines, all are operated in a similar way. Just ensure to move the person and yourself to a safe place before using the AED. Do note that electricity and water can be lethal when combined. Ensure that the person is not wet or in close proximity to water before using the device. Place the defibrillator pads to the accurate position without being directly over the device. For persons with medication patches, get away the patch, dry the skin dry, remove if there is excessive hair, and then apply the AED pad.

AED

Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, often abbreviated as CPR delivers a small amount of blood to the heart, keeping the body and the brain to function until defibrillation takes place. Defibrillation is a shock offered to the heart to restart its regular function.

Most of the licensed classes in CPR training include AED certification, which teaches how to use the electronic defibrillation unit on heart attack victims. AED Certification San Ramon is required by Doctors, nurses, dentists, licensed physiotherapists, and chiropractors, or other health professionals.

WHAT IS AN AED?

AED is an instrument used to complement CPR.
Automated external defibrillator (AED) is a lightweight, mobile device that gives an electric shock through the chest to the heart. It is used to help those people who are going through a sudden cardiac arrest.

Adams safety helps the individual/group to get an AED Certification San Ramon. An AED certified professional will be guided well and he needs to follow the following steps to use AED:
 Firstly an AED certified person needs to find the pulse and check if the person is breathing.
 In case the pulse can’t be found emergency help needs to be called for.
 The specialist needs to turn on AED and the voice instructions will follow after that. It tells how to check the pulse and acknowledge whether the person is breathing or not. It will guide how to position electrode pads on the person’s chest.
 The next step is to deliver the shock. Once the pads are placed in the position, the AED device itself measures the person’s heart rhythm and determines if the shock is required. If it is, then the device instructs the user to maintain a distance and push the button to deliver the shock.
 Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation is required after the shock. The AED will guide the same. The process can be repeated as required until the emergency course of action takes place.

How To Use an AED – Video

Are you also confused about the difference between a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) and a heart attack and think of them to be one common heart disorder? Yeah, we know it happens with many of us. Even, I used to think that both of the cases are same sort of disorder happening with the victim’s heart and had a wrong idea that we can carry out the same remedy steps in both of the cases. But, that’s not the reality.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a condition where heart unexpectedly and abruptly stops beating which is usually due to an abnormal heart rhythm, known as Ventricular Fibrillation (VF). Whereas in heart attack, blood supply to the heart muscle is suddenly blocked and the victim can experience chest pain before the attack; it can also lead to SCA in some of the cases.

However, SCA may or may not occur with a heart attack and it happens without any warning sign and hence it’s altogether more important to be prepared to save your love ones from this impending danger. AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) is the key solution to SCA and if used within first 3-5 minutes of a person suffering from SCA, it can dramatically increase the chance of survival for the patient from 5% to almost 70%.

AEDs are especially designed to be used by anyone and everyone with a little bit of training or no training at all. The video given below is a step-by-step guide to save the life of your loved ones in the time of emergency, if they have Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA).
