[Press Release] Adams Safety Announces Its CPR Training Programs Support New 2015 AHA CPR Guidelines

October 19, 2015; San Ramon, California: Adams Safety Training, which provides First Aid, CPR, and BLS training in the San Francisco Bay Area and other surroundings since 1992, has today announced that its CPR, BLS, and first aid training programs support the newly updated 2015 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

The 2015 Guidelines reaffirm many of the recommendations in the 2010 Guidelines and highlight the importance of quick action, proper CPR training, and coordinated efforts of community and health-care based resuscitation systems in increasing the survival chance of victims in cardiac arrest events. The new guidelines emphasize high quality CPR in cardiac emergencies, hands-only CPR for untrained rescuers, standard CPR for trained bystanders, and successful post-cardiac arrest care.

Over 326,000 people die each year from sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in the United States. It is believed that over 90 percent of cardiac arrest victims die because they don’t receive immediate CPR from bystanders.  The 2015 guidelines say that high-quality CPR training for both bystanders and health care providers will help them feel more confident to provide better CPR to cardiac arrest victims.

All the training programs of Adams Safety Training fully support the new AHA updates for CPR so as to improve safety and overall wellness in the community. In addition to meeting the new recommendations, Adams Safety Training will provide more comprehensive instructions in CPR training for public and private employees, non-profit agencies, organizations, and general public interested in learning first aid and CPR procedures. The updated adult CPR, BLS, pediatric CPR, and first aid training courses provided by Adams Safety now include all the recommendations of the latest guidelines to help people act quickly in cardiac emergencies and save even more lives.

Adams Safety Training Supporting The Million Heart National Initiative

26th February, 2015, San Ramon, California: Adams Safety Training, which provides First Aid, CPR, and BLS training to the entire San Francisco Bay Area and other surrounding locations, is supporting a national initiative for cardiovascular disease prevention in order to increase awareness about heart health.

February month has been declared as “American Heart Month” under the national initiative “Million Hearts,” which is a collaborated effort of public health organizations and several non-profit and private organizations such as the American Heart Association (AHA). The initiative will enhance cardiovascular disease prevention activities across public and private sectors, so as to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes by 2017. The initiative also aims to increase access to automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in workplaces, homes, schools, and other public places. To support this cause, Adams Safety has decided to reduce the cost of AEDs by $100 per unit.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Cardiovascular diseases, such as stroke, heart disease, and high blood pressure, are responsible for one out of every three deaths in the country. The Department of Health and Human Services along with other health organizations launched the Million Hearts initiative to improve heart health across communities and help Americans live healthier lives. The initiative aims to improve management of the “ABCS,” which include taking Aspirin by high-risk patients, controlling Blood-pressure, managing Cholesterol, and Smoking cessation. This initiative calls for changes in the health care system by strengthening tobacco control, decreasing sodium and trans fat consumption in the diet. In the clinical realm, improving heart health is critical in light of increasing incidences of death because of cardiovascular diseases. Additional means of preventing death due to heart attacks and stroke include increasing access to AEDs, providing coordinated care and attending CPR and BLS training.

Adams Safety Training has joined the efforts of health organizations by reducing the AED costs. Adams Safety is supporting the “February is Heart Month” noble cause and wants to increase access to AEDs in public locations. The survival rates increase by 5%, if an AED is immediately applied to a victim of cardiac arrest, which is why, Adams Safety has reduced AED prices because this will lead to the availability of more AEDs in public locations, workplaces and hospitals. The step taken by Adams Safety will encourage more people to live heart healthy lives.

Decline in Sudden Cardiac Arrest Incidence: Reports American Heart Association (AHA)

January 20, 2015, San Ramon, California: A report entitled “Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics — 2015 Update: A Report From the American Heart Association” released by the American Heart Association (AHA) in January 2015 revealed that about 326,200 people in the U.S. have experienced emergency medical services (EMS)-assessed sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) outside hospitals in 2011. This incidence has declined from the reported incidence of 424,000 in the AHA’s Heart and Stroke Statistics–2014 Update.

According to the 2015 AHA report, the average survival rate in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) cases is 10.6% and among these cases, 8.3% of survivors have good neurological function. One in three SCA victims survives if the cardiac arrest is witnessed by a bystander. Bobby V. Khan, MD, PhD, Director, Atlanta Vascular Research Foundation, said that the findings from the 2015 AHA report suggest motivation and alert. Khan also stated that the U.S. continues to witness one in three deaths due to cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, there has been a notable decline in CVD events over the last 50 years. Reduction in CVD events in the U.S. is attributable to early recognition and improvement of CVD risk factors.

The AHA report also highlighted that 69.5% of OHCA cases generally occur at a residence or home and 25% of EMS treated OHCA have no symptoms before the onset of arrest. Among 25% of EMS treated OHCA, 23% have an initial rhythm of ventricular fibrillation (VF). SCA victims are witnessed by bystanders in 38.7% of cases. SCA is a condition in which the heart stops functioning abruptly and unexpectedly. Although it’s true that SCA is a primary cause of death in adults, but children are not being spared by SCA attacks. Approximately 6,328 individuals in the U.S. with age below 18 years experienced EMS-assessed OHCA. The report has provided valuable insights related to young athletes too. Most sudden deaths in youth athletes are caused due to CVD. Of all the CVD deaths reported in the U.S. in 2014, 54% of them were in high school.

The report also found that heart disease is one of main global causes of death with 17.3 million deaths per year. This number will increase to 23.6 million by 2030. The incidence of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is higher in men than in women.

According to Khan, earlier intervention in SCA cases can increase the survival chances of victims, thereby leading to a better quality of life. People must be educated about things required to be done by them if they witness SCA emergency.
